Electrical Engineering Department, established in the year 2013, is one of the oldest departments of IKG Punjab Technical University Batala Campus. The department has been imparting quality education at undergraduate and in process of imparting education for post graduate level and doctorate too. The faculty members have been active in teaching and research activities. The course curriculum is being revised from time to time so as to keep abreast with the latest developments and emerging technologies. Various departmental laboratories have been strengthened and modernized by procuring state of art equipment. The department is equipped with the latest experimental and computational facilities for taking up R&D and consultancy activities in different areas of electrical engineering.

Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. This field first became an identifiable occupation in the latter half of the 19th century after commercialization of the electric telegraph, the telephone, and electric power distribution and use. Subsequently, broadcasting and recording media made electronics part of daily life. The invention of the transistor, and later the integrated circuit, brought down the cost of electronics to the point they can be used in almost any household object.

Electrical engineering has now subdivided into a wide range of subfields including electronics, digital computers, power engineering, telecommunications, control systems, radio-frequency engineering, signal processing, instrumentation, and microelectronics. The subject of electronic engineering is often treated as its own subfield but it intersects with all the other subfields, including the power electronics of power engineering.

Electrical engineers typically hold a degree in electrical engineering or electronic engineering. Practicing engineers may have professional certification and be members of a professional body. Such bodies include the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (professional society) (IET).

Electrical engineers work in a very wide range of industries and the skills required are likewise variable. These range from basic circuit theory to the management skills required of a project manager. The tools and equipment that an individual engineer may need are similarly variable, ranging from a simple voltmeter to a top end analyzer to sophisticated design and manufacturing software.

Career Prospects

The jobs in Electrical Engineering are expected to grow more. Although rising demand for electrical and electronic goods, including advanced communications equipment, defense-related electronic equipment, and consumer electronics products should increase, foreign competition for electronic products and increasing use of engineering services performed in other countries will act to limit employment growth Job growth is expected to be fastest in services industries—particularly consulting firms that provide electronic engineering expertise.
Apart from that, the graduates in Electrical Engineering are needed in manufacturing units. Almost all major companies of private and government sector need electrical and electronic engineers to handle their projects.

Consultancy and Guidance Services
Department of Electrical Engineering, IKGPTU, Batala campus is having state of art laboratories with latest equipment and machines in all the labs. Highly qualified staff is also in efforts to have interaction with the industries for imparting their services in consultancy service. Besides, for taking benefit of latest laboratory equipment of the department, students from other Institutes also visit us to conduct their practicals and guidance.
Project Workshop Organized for students B.Tech.-EE 4th semester and 6th semester
A National workshop was organized for the students of B.Tech.-EE 4th semester and 6th semester during the period 12th March 2018 to 14th March 2018. This workshop was organized by the efforts of Dr. Kamaljit Singh Bhatia AP-EE & HOD-EE. Dr. Akhil Gupta AP-EE and Dr. Naveen Kumar Sharma AP-EE, coordinated for the conduct of this workshop. Mr.Akashdeep Singh Technical Assistant EE,also made contribution helping the students for the issuing of required items in the laboratory. Er. Shamsher Singh Managing Director,Puntech, Batala, District Gurdaspur, motivated the students to link their theoretical learning with project development and ask them to orient their mind in research and development in future. During the conduct of workshop, the students developed various prototype models for voltage regulator, power supplies and passive filters. The principle of each device used was explained to the students. The students were issued various semiconductor components from the department with which the projects had been developed by them. Finally, at the last day of the workshop Dr. Kamaljit Singh Bhatia proposed the vote of thanks to all present.
